Description

For graduates of the Basic Obedience / class, this 50-minute class continues foundation skills and introduces tricks. Students will have an (optional) chance to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test in the last week of class.

Prerequisites: Beginning Puppy  OR S.T.A.R Puppy OR Basic Manners class with previous group training experience or approval of trainer

Behaviors Include:

  • Impulse control behaviors such as sit stay and down stay
  • Focusing on handler/owner and ignoring distractions
  • Sitting politely for petting
  • Loose leash walking through a crowd (modified)
  • Recalls with more distractions
  • Greeting a stranger (modified)
  • Greeting another dog politely
  • Supervised separation
  • Reviewing CGC test requirements
  • Tricks*

Important Note: While this class provides an excellent foundation for your dog’s readiness for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test, it’s crucial to understand that completing this 6-week session once does not guarantee success in the test. Success in the CGC test requires extensive practice and reinforcement of good behaviors, sometimes necessitating multiple rounds of training.

At the end of the 6-week course, we’ll have a discussion to assess whether you and your dog are truly prepared for the CGC test. This conversation will help determine if you’re ready to move forward or if it would be beneficial for you to retake the class to further solidify your skills.

The CGC test is offered separately for a fee, by a CGC evaluator. Please add yourself to this waitlist, in case you are interested in taking the test.

BRING TO CLASS:

  • Lots of small, moist treats your dog loves.
  • Favorite toy and food filled toy such as Kong.
  • Mat (such as a bathmat).
  • Flat collar, martingale or  harness. (no prong, choke or e-collars allowed)
  • 6ft leash (no retractable leash please!)
