Description

This class serves as a foundation for students aspiring to teach their dogs focused heeling, particularly for competitive purposes. It caters to both dogs new to heeling and those requiring foundational work to enhance precision while incorporating games and energy into their heeling. The course employs platforms, gates, pivot bowls, shaping techniques, and games to introduce dogs to the fundamentals of heeling and teamwork with their handlers. While achieving high-quality heeling takes years, this class establishes the groundwork for a successful start.

Students should have the following equipment:

• A platform large enough for their dog to stand comfortably, with a width slightly wider than the dog’s stanch.
• A pivot bowl, with rubber feed tubs from farm supply stores being a suitable option.
• A gate, which can be small or an x-pen. Alternatively, students may use a wall or fence at home for exercises.
• A 10-foot or longer long line for certain exercises if their dog cannot work off-leash.

Prerequisites:  Intermediate Manners or Better Leash Manners and Recall or Foundations for Competitive Obedience or approval from the instructor
